Title
Safeguarding Intangible Cultural Heritage Through New Technologies
Abstrat
In recent years, the term Cultural Heritage has also included Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH), which is at risk of disappearing due to various reasons such as migration. Since 2002, UNESCO consolidated the term ICH and a year later defined the five main domains in which it may be manifested. In the modern society of globalization, people try to seek, understand and revive their identity. Thus, the safeguarding of ICH is indissolubly linked to human evolution. ICH’s domains should be recorded using appropriate means, methodologies, and standards to adequately describe them and ensure that their digital files are maintained. The emergence and evolution of new technologies nowadays offer valuable and flexible tools for this purpose. This paper provides a critical review of how those new technologies can play a key role in safeguarding the five domains of ICH and argues that they must be used beyond the perspective of simple documentation.
